The state Board of Elections is warning voters about a scam.
It says people across 13 counties in the state, including on Long Island, have been going door to door impersonating board staff.
The state says people posing as election workers are going to residents' homes and telling them they are illegally registered multiple times.
The Board says any of its employees would present identification. If you ask for ID and your request is refused, the Board recommends collecting as much information as you can without giving away your personal details and getting in touch with your local police.
If you think you've been targeted, you're asked to call the Attorney General Helpline at 1-800-771-7755. For the hearing/voiced impaired, the number is 1-800-788-9898.
