Drivers can expect some changes to a number of streets along the Grand Concourse as construction gets underway Monday.
Construction crews will be replacing the East 161st underpass arch, creating more open space and landscaping Lou Gehrig Plaza. To get the work done, the Department of Transportation has set up temporary concrete barriers on the Grand Concourse between 159th and 165th streets. Although the 161st underpass will be open, the west half of the Walton Avenue intersection will be closed.
In addition, the bus stop at East 161st Street will be relocated to East 158th Street and the 163rd stop will be eliminated. Parking will also be prohibited between 158th and 162nd streets, and on 161st in front of the courthouse and Lou Gehrig Plaza.
