Star athlete from Ronkonkoma dies after crash

Loved ones are mourning the death of a Ronkonkoma teen who died from injuries he suffered in a car accident.Friends and family held a candlelight vigil Tuesday night for 18-year-old Stanley Hartnett.

Loved ones are mourning the death of a Ronkonkoma teen who died from injuries he suffered in a car accident.Friends and family held a candlelight vigil Tuesday night for 18-year-old Stanley Hartnett. According to police, Hartnett lost control of his car on Ocean Avenue in Ronkonkoma at around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police say he crashed into a tree, a porch of a business and was then ejected from his car.Hartnett was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Medical Center, where he did not progress and died Tuesday night.
Hartnett was the former co-captain of both the Connetquot High School football and lacrosse teams. He was headed to Briarcliffe College in the fall, where he was going to play lacrosse.
Police say it's not clear whether Hartnett was wearing a seatbelt. They are also trying to determine if alcohol was involved. Hartnett's friends say he was drinking before the crash.
