A Nassau sports complex is celebrating its reopening today after getting some major upgrades.
The Lou Anthony Sports Complex at the Massapequa PAL is now reopened with some new features.
Previously just a baseball field, it now includes a dek hockey rink, a state-of-the-art baseball field with turf and a renovated basketball court with fresh paint in Massapequa's colors.
Organizers say Saturday's reopening event is all about the community, and they're encouraging visitors to head down and check out the new upgrades.
"It's a dream come true for any kid who wants to get out of the house and shoot hoops, shoot the puck around or go hit some baseballs with their friends," says Officer Rich Pescatore, with Massapequa PAL.
Officials say it took about a year and a half a million dollars in donations from the community to help make the newly renovated complex a reality.
"Our kids today, with social media video games and pressures of modern life, need a haven a place to just be kids, and this does exactly that," says Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
The complex is named after a Massapequa officer who secured the land for the PAL building.
