Splish Splash hosts 8th annual Polar Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics athletes

All of the money raised supports Special Olympics athletes so that they can compete year-round.

More than 250 Long Islander braved the chilly weather Saturday for the eighth annual Polar Plunge at Splish Splash Water Park in Calverton.
All of the money raised supports Special Olympics athletes so that they can compete year-round.
"Special Olympics is a dream come true and special Olympics helped me win and be brave," said athlete Daniel Fletcher.
"...It's much appreciated because it goes right to our athletes, and that's what we strive to help with," said Southampton Special Education coach Brian Tenety.
Leaders told News 12 that a record $12,000 was raised this year. The event has raised over $50,000 to date.
