A new program on Long Island is giving young adults with special needs a chance to bake together.
Special Sweets launched Thursday at the Nassau Boards of Cooperative Educational Services in Garden City.
Patty Castrogiavanni, a teacher's aide, created Special Sweets after she realized her students had aged out of many opportunities.
She started the programs in her home and now it has become a full-time venture.
Nassau BOCES heard about the program and offered them a space to do their cooking.
"Every day is a new adventure - every day they grow in ways that I could never imagine," Castrogiavanni says.
The participants of the program say making cupcakes in the program is hard work but also fun.
