Police are asking for the public's help in locating the person or people responsible for slashing the throats of four kittens in Riverhead.

The Suffolk County SPCA says the suspect behind this crime could be dangerous. The agency has been posting fliers at businesses and on lampposts around town.

The kittens were found behind a brake service center on East Main Street Tuesday morning. Officials say the kittens were only about 3 weeks old.

The SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Francis Bujinkski, who found the cats, has donated $200 to the reward fund.

Investigators say whoever is behind the killings could face up to eight years in prison.
