The Suffolk SPCA is investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after two dogs in rough shape turned up on the doorstep of a Holtsville home.
Home security video shows the two pit bulls at the door of the home Saturday night.
"They looked like they both were starving," says the homeowner, James Guiffre. "The dogs were really skinny and bony, and so I said I gotta give them some food."
Guiffre fed them a can of dog food each. "Both of them just chunked it right down as fast as they could," he says.
Guiffre and his family were able to bring one of the dogs inside, and it is now being evaluated at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. The dog is emaciated and has a severe skin infection.
News 12 is told that the other dog wandered off.
The Suffolk SPCA says it is searching for the dogs' owner. Anyone with information is urged to call 631-382-7722.
