The Town of Southampton will receive up to $850,000 from the organizers of the 2026 U.S. Open Golf Championship to host the tournament.
Ryan Murphy, Town Code Compliance & Emergency Management Administrator, tells News 12 the figure is based on the projected personnel for the event, including the town’s police, public safety and highway department.
The international sporting event is returning to the historic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club for the sixth time this June.
“The value is a not to exceed value, not necessarily a locked in number,” Murphy said, further explaining that the total cost will depend on overtime shifts versus straight-time shifts, minor increases or decreases in projected staffing levels, and other considerations.
“The Town is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all attendees and community members throughout the event,” Murphy continued.
Practice rounds for the 126th annual tournament start June 15, with official play starting Thursday, June 18 and the final day on Sunday, June 21.
