The superintendent for the South Country Central School District spoke publicly Wednesday for the first time since the boy's junior varsity lacrosse season was canceled.
Antonio Santana did not speak specifically about the team, but promised the people of the community that he will host a town hall style meeting in the future where he will speak about what he called a "tough situation."
"There are some events that have occurred that we're not permitted to talk about," Santano said during a school board meeting.
Suffolk County police say they are investigating an incident involving students that happened inside the locker room at Bellport High School.
The district has not released any details, but police were contacted by the high school on April 28 and parents received an email about the incident on May 3.
Santana told the audience at the meeting that he could not elaborate on the situation because of district policy and legal reasons.
"And sometimes that puts us in a tough situation where we can't say anything, but we owe it the privacy of our community members, our neighbors, to adhere to those rules and to stand by what we're supposed to do."
Santana did not give a date for the future meeting that he promised to hold regarding the incident.
