A 19-year-old male was fatally shot at a McDonald's in Hempstead, police say.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of the restaurant on Peninsula Avenue at 3:48 p.m.
Police say the shooting is believed to be a targeted attack.
Multiple sources say the incident may have been gang related. Police would not confirm if gangs were involved.
Police say multiple shots were fired. They say the victim was in the parking lot when the shooter came up behind him and started firing.
One man, who did not want to be identified, said he saw the shooting.
"Two guys came up chasing the guy, the young guy, I guess he was trying to get away," he says. "He was holding up his pants - they shot him - they had masks on and they ran out that way. It was crazy."
Hempstead School Board Vice President Lamont Johnson says the parking lot is a popular hangout for teenagers and more should be done to keep them safe.
"I want to see more police patrols in the area - it's very important that we have more police patrols in the area," Johnson says. "We're very concerned about the safety of that young man and the rest of the students that hang out in this area."
People in the community told News 12 they want to see senseless gun violence come to an end.
The victim has not been identified by police and no arrests have been made.
