Sources: Person bit by shark at Jones Beach

The person was bitten by a shark at about noon and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment, sources said.

Sources tell News 12 a swimmer was bit by a shark at Field 6 at Jones Beach State Park on Friday afternoon.

The bite occurred around noon, and the person was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment, sources said.

It is unclear if swimming was halted, but swimmers were seen in the water at Jones Beach before 2 p.m. on Friday.

Hempstead Town officials confirmed that shark patrol is carefully monitoring town beaches for sharks.
