Sources tell News 12 the district is canceling all winter and fall sports. The fall sports season had been moved to March.
The cancellation would be the first among Long Island districts.
News 12 is told the Board of Education made the decision and coaches were informed Tuesday.
The spring sports season is still up in the air.
A petition with hundreds of signatures aiming to save Lawrence's sports season had already garnered hundreds of signatures as of Tuesday night.
