Son of late Nassau County Bridge Authority employee pleads guilty to stealing father's pension benefits

The son of a deceased former Nassau County Bridge Authority worker has admitted to stealing his father’s pension benefits, according to prosecutors.

The State Comptroller’s Office says Richard Gaines Jr. pleaded guilty to taking $80,000 from Gaines Sr.’s checking account after he died. This took place from 2019 to 2022.

Gaines Sr. was employed by the Nassau County Bridge Authority for 29 years.

Officials say Gaines Jr. is scheduled to return to court on July 17.
