Restaurant and amusement park owners rallied against a proposed soda tax Monday at the State Capitol.

The tax would add $1.36 to a $1.99 two-liter soda, a 68% increase, according to Mike DeFeo, Coca-Cola Bottling general manager.

"You can only pass so much on to the consumer," said George Frantzis of Quassy Amusement Park.

The tax aims to fund universal free school lunches, officials said. Similar proposals have failed in the past, legislators noted.
