A snowplow collided with a utility pole Sunday morning, leaving hundreds in the dark and causing a fire at Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park.

The crash happened at around 8 a.m. on Indian Head Road, knocking out power for roughly 650 customers, most of whom have since had their service restored.

According to PSEG Long Island, the collision resulted in the loss of four sections of primary power lines. The impact of the crash caused the utility pole to lean dangerously at a 45-degree angle, leaving tangled wires scattered around the area. Emergency crews have been working for hours to make necessary repairs.

Inside the ice rink, fire officials reported that flames broke out in the basement and quickly spread to the first floor. The facility was evacuated. No injuries were reported from the incident.

"We were getting ready to start the day when the power went out really quick. Then, we heard the sirens, multiple horns, and trucks one after another from the fire department," said neighbor Mike Belling.

Indian Head Road was closed between Old Northport Road and Old Indian Head Road as crews made the necessary repairs but has since reopened.
