Snow cleanup at bus stops far from complete 1 week after storm

Massive piles of snow are blocking several bus stops along the Smithtown Bypass more than a week after recent storms, creating safety concerns for riders and pedestrians.
Jack Parikh, who relies on the bus to get to work, says the conditions have made it nearly impossible to use public transportation.
"They haven't done a good job by the bus tent. I almost slipped. They haven't done a good job by the sidewalk," Parikh said.
With snow piled up in and around the bus stops, Parikh says there’s nowhere safe to stand while waiting.
"It's very scary because you have to stand close to the road and the cars are flying 60, 70, 80 miles per hour," he said.

"They should have a dedicated crew just for that. They got to get to it eventually, I bet it's now all ice," said Richard Stewart.
The snow piles are also causing visibility issues for drivers and pedestrians.
"It's a little dangerous with the high piles, trying to see around. I know people drive too fast," said Barbara Nevins.
News 12 reached out to the Town of Smithtown, which said Suffolk County’s Department of Public Works is responsible for clearing snow at bus stops along the bypass. In a statement, Suffolk County said, “Each bus stop is being addressed. If residents would like to report any trouble areas, please call the county’s 311 system.”
