A portion of the Smithtown Historical Society property has been transformed into a winter wonderland.
Holiday Illuminations allows guests to see the historic buildings of Smithtown in a different light. The buildings, some of which date back to the 1700s, are the backdrop for festive light shows set to music.
"We want people to not just look at the lights but the buildings, the historical buildings that have been here a long time," explained Priya Kapoor, the executive director of the Smithtown Historical Society.
The show isn't the only things guests are able to enjoy each weekend until Christmas. There are plenty of festive photo ops, fire pits with s'mores kits to purchase, a hot cocoa bar and Santa's workshop where you can meet Old Saint Nick himself.
To make all the magic of the season come to life, the Smithtown Historical Society partnered with a local event production company, Northstream Live. Team members told News 12 they grew up nearby and enjoyed the grounds on school trips. It took them a month to plan out the 5-acre setup.
"We wanted it to be a place where people could be comfortable but also make it something special, something you can't see everywhere you go," explained Theo Megaris, who works with the Islandia-based company.
Funds raised from ticket sales go toward the grounds, the buildings and the farm animals.
