Smithtown car dealership owner funds free school shopping spree for kids
Kids got to go on a free back-to-school shopping spree at Walmart Wednesday night.
The opportunity was made possible by Smithtown Acura dealership owner Robert Certilman.
Certilman gave 100 children in need $100 each to buy supplies for school at the store.
"I want to make sure they have what they need to succeed in school," says Certilman.
The children were accompanied by members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. They helped the children shop and check out.
Sonny Mangat, of the organization, said the opportunity was very important to the kids. "Being kids at this age, they're always growing, outsizing their clothes and running out of school supplies, so it's a nice way to start them off on a good note."
A few supplies that the kids bought included new clothes, binders, socks and even a soccer ball.
