Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is a day that was created to encourage people to support local businesses by making purchases at neighborhood stores.

In Southold, Forked Road Press has vintage and rare books, records, art and photographs. Nicholas Amara opened the store in August. He said he’s hoping for some foot traffic, so that people “discover the store.” Everything is 15% off on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

A few steps away is White Flower Farmhouse, which has everything from home decor to housewares to toys.

Shopper Marley Heit told News 12 she tries to “shop local whenever possible.”
