267ds agoIt was a big night on Broadway as one of New York City’s theaters reopened for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The drama “Pass Over” marked the milestone at the August Wilson Theatre. Audience members took their seats for the first time since March 2020.
The performance also marks a new era of pandemic protocols for everyone who wants to take in a Broadway show. The same protocols are now in place for all 41 Broadway theaters as the shows gradually return to the stage.
Audience members must show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. Masks must also be worn inside the theater.
“Nobody feels great about telling people they have to wear a mask or give direction, but we’ve said from the day we closed that we would not reopen without the protocols that we felt every person – cast, crew and audience would be safe,” says Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin.
The safety protocols also extend to the cast and crew, who are also required to be fully vaccinated against the virus.
“Pass Over” had its first preview on Wednesday, beginning a limited engagement lasting nine weeks.
The COVID-19 protocols will be in place through at least Oct. 31.
