Two Nassau correction officers are under investigation for accusations of excessive force against an inmate at the county jail.
News 12 has exclusively learned about the internal affairs investigation by the Nassau Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Anthony LaRocco says the inmate was not seriously injured.
In a separate case, the Nassau District Attorney is investigating the head of the Sheriff’s K-9 unit, for allegations of animal abuse.
Peter Lilli, president of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Correction Officers Benevolent Association wrote,
"It's important for the public to understand that our officers risk their lives every day maintaining the safety and security of everyone in our jail, while dealing with some of the most violent and unpredictable individuals in our county. As there is an ongoing investigation, we can't provide further details but rest assured, there is a presumption of innocence and we will fight these suspensions, which came down before all the facts were presented. We will ensure that our officers' rights are fully protected and afforded their due process."
Further details about the investigations were not available.
