A local rescue shelter is seeking donations as well as forever homes for dozens of dogs that were recently rescued.
Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue, in Port Jefferson Station, rescued 101 dogs about a week ago from a hoarding situation upstate.
Workers at the shelter say a senior citizen housing the dogs called them for help since she was being evicted from her home.
Dori Scofield, president of Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue, says the dogs were in horrible shape when the shelter received them.
"They were living on counters, on top of the stove, in the cabinets," Scofield says.
Scofield says many of the dogs need medical procedures, and one needs to have his leg amputated.
The shelter is looking to find homes for all of these furry friends, but in the meantime, they are asking for donations to help the animals with their veterinary treatment, care and supplies.
