The MTA said riders on the Ronkonkoma branch should anticipate possible delays and cancellations through parts of Nassau County this morning after two utility poles came down on the tracks west of Bethpage Wednesday afternoon.

The transit agency said trains were moving on or close to schedule at the start of the early morning, but crews and equipment had to be moved into place ahead of the peak morning rush.

Wednesday afternoon, PSEG Long Island said two poles fell down across the tracks, which shut down LIRR service.

PSEG and MTA crews worked overnight and were able to clear the tracks shortly after 11 p.m.

The utility company said the exact cause of the issue was under investigation, but noted it was very windy yesterday.

The situation raised concerns about how this weekend's storm could impact public transit if strong winds already took out poles days before the worst of the nor'easter is expected to hit Long Island.
