Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced legislation Monday that would increase benefits for reservists who serve overseas.
Schumer says reservists and active members of the military fight on the same front during a war, but do not receive comparable benefits afterward back home. Instead of treating reservists at military medical centers that are sometimes far away, Schumer's bill would allow them to receive treatment at local hospitals. The bill would also double the monthly education benefit to $600.
The senator also says he will soon attempt to raise reservists' monthly stipend.
