Police say they're searching for a hit-and-run driver who critically injured a pedestrian in Shirley early Sunday morning.
Detectives say the victim was crossing William Floyd Parkway near Flintlock Drive at around 2:30 a.m. when he was struck.
The pedestrian has been identified as 21-year-old Gerson Izaguirre, of Mastic. Police say he was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses told police that the driver was in a red sedan that may have damage to the front end and driver’s side.

Neighbors were not surprised to hear of the incident because they say crashes in the area are frequent, and they say speeding is often to blame.
