The NYPD School Safety Division spoke with News 12 and outlined what precautions are being taken amid a string of violent attacks in city schools.

There were three reported attacks at JHS 123 and AECI Charter School in the Bronx and Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn in the first week of December.

Inspector Kevin Taylor, the commanding officer for the NYPD School Safety Division, says students can expect more scanning and additional school safety agents. Select schools are also implementing "panic" buttons that staff and students can use when they feel as though they are in danger.

An anonymous tip line that students can use to report inappropriate and dangerous behavior is expected to roll out in the next few months as well.

When it comes to scanning, the goal, according to the safety division, is to make students feel comfortable and not as though they are being watched 24/7.

While a class of 250 school safety agents was originally cut back in November, Taylor says they in the process of bringing an additional 100 agents on board.
