A new report claims the state could soon be buying hundreds of Sandy-damaged homes.

More than 600 homes are eligible for the voluntary buyouts.

Newsday says at least 70 homeowners, many in Lindenhurst, want the state to purchase their ravaged homes. The maximum price is about $729,000.

The state expects to make offers to the first homeowners this month.
