The Salvation Army in Blue Point is closing its doors.
Services will be shifted to the Riverhead and East Northport locations on Sept. 20.
Residents say they are worried about not having a local place for food and other services. Many say they rely on the location for its food pantry and go there to find spiritual relief.

The Salvation Army has served the Blue Point community through a food pantry and other services at 211 Blue Point Avenue. The Family Store in Patchogue, less than three miles away, will remain open.

The organization tells News 12 the move will help it serve the community more effectively. It says it did not take the decision lightly, and that the decision was made because the numbers of clients it has helped have dwindled over the years.
The Salvation Army says it is helping residents find other food pantries and other social services that are nearby.
The organization tells News 12 that it is considering starting a mobile food pantry to cover the area, but plans have not been finalized.
