The Sachem High School East football team returned to the practice field Saturday for the first time since the death of one their teammates.
As News 12 previously reported, 16-year-old Josh Mileto died earlier this month after a log he was carrying during a drill fell on his head. It happened during an offseason summer camp.
The school's superintendent says the head coach and another staffer will be reassigned pending an investigation. Anthony Gambino has been named the interim head coach.
The team is scheduled to have their first game on Sept. 1 but a statewide rule requires the team to practice for 15 days before their first game. State officials have given the team a bye week to meet that requirement.
