Layoffs are still possible at the Sachem Central School District.

On Wednesday, the district said, "until the state has released their final state aid, nothing, including the number of potential layoffs is definitive at this time."

Around 70 employees were initially told their jobs were on the line and that the district was waiting to find out how much state funding it would receive next year.

Gov. Kathy Hochul signaled this week that funding would likely not be reduced.

On Tuesday evening, the Sachem School Board said it had gotten concessions from teacher and staff unions to keep employees in place. In the outlined budget, the district is still facing a $3.7 million deficit.
