Nearly 1,000 runners are expected to participate in “Andrew’s Top Gun Run” Saturday at Epcal Park.
The race is to honor Boy Scout Andrew McMorris from Wading River, who was hit and killed while hiking with his troop in 2018.
“Time really doesn't heal the wounds of losing a child,” says John McMorris, Andrew’s dad. “But bringing people together for a common cause does kind of help the healing it doesn't actually do the healing, but it helps the healing.”
Andrew’s parents keep his spirit alive by giving out scholarships through the Andrew McMorris Foundation.
Andrew would have been 17 years old on Saturday.
The race, which is rain or shine, will feature a flyover, games for the kids, bagels and even a catered barbecue.
