A Roosevelt man was charged with animal cruelty after police say they found dogs starving and witnessed torture at the suspect?s house.
According to police, 21-year-old Geofreda Rivera had two adult pit bulls and five puppies, which were starving and abused at his Park Avenue house. Police say they witnessed Rivera dangling a puppy over the head of an adult pit bull. The adult dog attacked, biting the puppy on the head and blinding it in one eye.
Police believe Rivera may have been training the animals for dog fights. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation by the ASPCA. The dogs were taken to an animal hospital where they are being nursed back to health.
