Nassau police closed down a New Cassel neighborhood for hours after two men robbed a store in the area Thursday.
The SWAT team responded to the morning robbery at Checks Cashed on Prospect Avenue, in which two employees were beaten. One of the employees reported seeing the robbers enter a nearby home, prompting police to close off Prospect Avenue and East Broadway until 2 p.m. while they searched the surrounding area and woods.
Police said $1,000 in cash was stolen.
One of the store clerks, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.
The suspects are still at large, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
