Snow flurries fell across Long Island on Saturday – a prelude to another system of winter weather arriving Sunday morning.
In the Town of Hempstead, trucks are already getting ready to salt the roads.
“We always want to on the side of being overprepared because you have to keep our streets safe for the residents," said Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti.
Highway, Parks and other department officials in the town will look at the forecast and plan accordingly.
Ferretti says it looks like Sunday will just be a salt operation with no plowing needed.
“But you have to be flexible, and you have to look at the forecast and then look with your own eyes and see what's actually happening and make a decision," Ferretti said.
If there is snow accumulation, he says to clear out fire hydrants, don't shovel snow back into the road and check on seniors to make sure everyone stays safe.
