A Riverhead man is facing charges after he was accused of sexually abusing his roommate’s 5-year-old son. 

State police say Amilcar Alvarado was arrested Friday evening after the child's mother came to their barracks and reported the alleged assault.

Police say the alleged abuse happened earlier in the week.

Alvarado faces felony sex abuse charges. He is being held on $25,000 cash bail.

Alvarado is due in court on Tuesday.
