Long Islanders and RISE Life Services made a stop at Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton Tuesday to make a big donation.
They spent six weeks collecting dog and cat food, along with toys and blankets from residents across Long Island.
They say it is part of an effort to help close the gap between the growing amount of homeless and underfed animals.
"We see things on TV all the time about animal shelters needing food and supplies because they have so many pets that need homes, and unfortunately since we can't adopt them all, we can at least help," says Joann Vitale, of RISE Life Services.
Donations were also made to other animal shelters across Long Island.
