Rideshare drivers from across New York City honked their horns and made their feelings clear Wednesday throughout Lower Manhattan in a show of support for Intro 276.
Intro 276 is a bill currently being debated in City Council that would prohibit Uber and Lyft from deactivating drivers without just cause.
Representatives from the NY Taxi Workers Alliance say deactivation can be devastating for drivers, keeping them off the road and unable to make money.
A statement to News12 from Lyft says in part, “Fair activations for drivers are important but they must be done in a way that doesn’t jeopardize the safety of the public and the platform.”
Uber sent News12 a statement that read in part, “Changes the TLC made in 2023 means restricted access is now only needed in times of low demand.”
