An Amityville musician is finding inspiration through his own work.

Ray Watson, 68, travels around Long Island to nursing homes, senior centers and rehabilitation centers to play the piano and sing. One of those places is at St. Johnland Nursing Center in Kings Park.

“People think that when they retire that life is over, but it really just starts,” Watson says. “I’m having the time of my life now, I can’t believe I wasted all those years not doing this.”

Watson is a former doo-wop band musician.

The chief medical officer of Catholic Health says there are proven health benefits of music therapy.
