A community in mourning after a retired NYPD officer died while shoveling snow on Sunday.

Roger McGovern, 60, was shoveling at Our Lady of Victory church in Floral Park during the snowstorm, according to police.

He was an usher at the church and a member at the Knights of Columbus.

McGovern’s longtime friend tells News 12 everyone loved being around him.

"Fiercely loyal, good friend, great friend, helpful, always happy, always had a kind word for everyone. Never had a bad word to say about anyone," Matt Troy says.

The church held a virtual rosary service in his honor Sunday night.

No official cause of death has been given.
