Residents in North Bellmore say new warning signs haven't been enough to deter wrong-way drivers from going down their street.
As News 12 Long Island has reported, the Town of Hempstead put up two new "do not enter" signs on Hamilton Road following complaints of speeding wrong-way drivers on the one-way street. Police also told News 12 that they would intensify patrols.
But residents say it's still a problem and fear someone could get hurt or killed.
Residents believe drivers are illegally cutting down Hamilton Road to avoid the intersection at Jerusalem and Bellmore avenues. They want police to step up enforcement and crack down on the wrong-way drivers.
The residents also want a "children at play" sign placed near a Little League ballfield and a preschool in the area.
Police say they have intensified patrols in the area and even ticketed someone who lives on the street for driving the wrong way.
