There's a new push to rename the Dean Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre for a Marine who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Signs with Skelos' name were removed from the park after his conviction on federal charges. The former state Senate majority leader was sentenced last week to five years in prison.
Residents who spoke to News 12 expressed support for renaming the playing fields for Lt. Ronald Winchester. He was a Rockville Centre native and Chaminade football star who served as a Marine and was killed in Iraq in 2004.
Greystone Road, where Winchester lived, has also been renamed for him. Every neighbor who spoke with News 12 said they'd be happy to see the park pay him tribute as well.
The Village of Rockville Centre says it is waiting for the outcome of Skelos' appeal process before officially deciding on renaming the park.
