Some Soundview parents are worried cleanup at a toxic site may affect a nearby school.
Residents and elected officials are calling for an investigation into work being done at the former Loral Electronics building on Bronx River Avenue. They fear the chemicals, including asbestos, being cleaned up are heading into the air they breathe.
Many parents also worry for their children?s safety at the Sounview Academy, which is located next to the site.
Some neighbors videotaped workers in protective suits and masks tearing off the roof of the building at night in August. They also say the work had stopped temporarily because the company didn?t have the proper permits, but once those were required the work began again.
Residents and elected officials are also calling for the neighborhood to be involved in the planning of the future industrial site.
