Community members say a five-way intersection in Greenlawn is a disaster waiting to happen.
In the past two years, Grace Mammone says she has logged 25 crashes at Greenlawn Road and Harborfields Court. The spot is one of only a few five-way uncontrolled intersections in Suffolk County. It has no stoplights or stop signs.
Neighbors say they've been begging the county for 18 years now to conduct a traffic study to fix it, with no result. Now, Suffolk Legislator William Spencer will hold an informational meeting at the intersection in two weeks.
“This is one of my top priorities,” says Spencer. “This is something that my community has reached out and has expressed a concern."
The county public works commissioner says he’s stopping short of a safety study, writing in an email that “the county is reviewing how we can best address maintenance issues involving this unique five-legged intersection.”
