Republican Reps. Nick LaLota and Andrew Garbarino have held on to their respective seats in New York's 1st and 2nd congressional districts.
LaLota declared victory over his Democratic opponent John Avlon for another term in the district that includes all of Long Island's East End towns along with the towns of Huntington, Brookhaven and Smithtown.
LaLota released a victory statement, saying, “I am deeply honored that Long Islanders have entrusted me to serve in Congress for another two years. Our convincing victory reflects our commitment to tackling our nation’s toughest challenges, from securing the border and fighting high prices to increasing the SALT deduction cap,” said LaLota. “Together, we campaigned on results, with a record of bipartisan achievement that brought over $150 million to Suffolk County. I’m ready to return to Washington and continue representing every family, every business, and every community in this district.”
In the 2nd Congressional District, Democratic candidate Rob Lubin conceded his race to Garbarino.
Garbarino will continue to serve the district that covers a portion of Long Island's South Shore, including the towns of Babylon, Islip and Brookhaven.
