Immigrant advocates say federal immigration agents have increased their presence across parts of Suffolk County in recent days, with sightings reported nearly every day for the past week in Brentwood and Central Islip.

According to advocates, photos and videos show Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating in multiple locations Tuesday morning, including the parking lot of a Central Islip Fire Department facility. Additional sightings were reported at the Target store in Central Islip, as well as other areas throughout the community.

Advocates also say ICE agents were seen at an immigration services facility in Hauppauge where individuals attend scheduled appointments.

The latest concerns follow a similar controversy over the summer, when ICE agents were spotted in the parking lot of a Brentwood firehouse.

Central Islip Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Robert Sutton says the fire department did not cooperate with ICE and was not aware the agents would be outside the firehouse. Sutton says the agents never went inside the facility.

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the latest reports.
