A new report from the MTA shows that the Long Island Rail Road has the highest rates of overtime payouts than any of their other agencies.
A research director at Empire Center for Public Policy says the number of employees who doubled their pay decreased, but data from the report suggests there are still high payouts to workers.
Peter Warren, of Empire Center, says raw data shows that there are still "extremely high payouts" going out to individuals.
"2.8% of LIRR workers' overtime pay exceeds their base salary," Warren says.
The LIRR has struggled with this issue when federal charges were brought against LIRR workers accused of stealing thousands of dollars in overtime pay for hours they didn't actually work.
"We don't know whether the fraud is in place that took place in a few years ago," Warren says.
He says the MTA needs to prioritize tackling the inefficiencies.
