Long Island politicians react to US attack on Iran

The strikes early Saturday morning opened a stunning new chapter in U.S. intervention in Iran and marked the second time in eight months that the Trump administration has used military force against the Islamic Republic.

Long Island officials are reacting to the overnight attack on Iran launched by the United States and Israel.

Rep. Andrew Garbarino released a statement on X reacting to the strikes.

The strikes early Saturday morning opened a stunning new chapter in U.S. intervention in Iran and marked the second time in eight months that the Trump administration has used military force against the Islamic Republic.

In Garbarino’s statement, he affirmed his priority to protect the American people amid a heightened threat landscape.

He also voiced support for the U.S. military and Israel, saying “America will always defend what is right.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on X that police are increasing patrols statewide. There are no current credible threats, but law enforcement will continue working to ensure the safety of New Yorkers

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine stated that Suffolk police are increasing patrols and checks at government buildings, religious institutions and critical infrastructure. He also stated that there are currently no credible threats in Suffolk County and members of the department are monitoring the situation and in communication with law enforcement partners.

The Nassau County Police Department stated they are working closely with intelligence and law enforcement partners to actively monitor current events in Iran. Currently, additional resources have been deployed, and residents will see an increased police presence on Saturday, including patrols of houses of worship across Nassau County.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman gave the following statement concerning the attack:

“We pray for the safe return of all our beloved members of the American Armed Forces. Iran’s leadership has called for death to America and funds terrorist organizations throughout the world. With an international coalition of American allies with Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE finally peace is possible in the Middle East. May God bless our troops.”
