UPDATE: According to State Parks Spokesman Chip Gorman, parking fields were full as of 10:30 a.m. at the Bethpage Airshow at Jones Beach.
A record crowd of over 106,000 people came out Friday for the practice show of the Bethpage Air Show.
Long Islanders packed Jones Beach to kick off the unofficial start to summer with their eyes on the sky.
"It's Memorial Day weekend, you have to come out for the air show,” said Eileen Shultis, of Levittown. “It's tradition!"
Now in its 20th year, the Air Show has become a “can’t miss” for many Long Islanders.
"If we can't make it out here on Saturday and Sunday, we'll come on Friday,” said Paige Merget, of Rockville Centre. “We have family going to the Republic Airport right now to meet the pilots. We love it!"
The Blue Angels and other fan favorites are coming back for the annual Memorial Day weekend tradition on Long Island.
The weekend is more than just a time to enjoy the air show though.
"Thank your local veterans. A lot of people give up way more than you'd ever expect,” said John Wood, of Huntington Station.
The Bethpage Air Show will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
