A Bayville man was arrested Thursday for what police called a road rage incident that reached intense heights.
According to police, Robert Derenthal, a 59-year-old father of two, was driving eastbound on Jericho Turnpike in Jericho when he was cut off by a white van.
Nassau Police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said Derenthal exited his car near the intersection of routes 106 and 107 and broke two of the van's windows with a thick glass bottle. Smith said Derenthal then threw the bottle at the front windshield, spraying glass over the two people in the van.
Police tracked Derenthal to his Bayville home and arrested him.
The suspect's relatives wouldn't discuss the matter with News 12 Long Island, but neighbors said they couldn't understand what would've set off such a laid back and friendly guy.
Derenthal was released on an appearance ticket. He will be arraigned later in the month.
Both individuals in the van got glass in their eyes, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
